Spirit of the Rules
These rules are in place to make 3rdedition.org a fun community open to all. Everyone is welcome to join the discussions, share ideas, and voice opinions. These rules are intended to make sure that everyone treats one another on the boards with respect, and to keep things fun and useful for everyone.
The Rules
- 1. Be respectful at all times. If someone disagrees with you, remember to respect their right to their own opinion. This works both ways. There is no need to be forceful or rude when expressing your opinion. And if you come to the forum seeking feedback on something, the criticism you receive might not all be positive. Develop a thick skin. Unless the post is a direct flame or otherwise violates the rules (cursing, continuing an off-topic post), moderators will allow the discussion to continue.
- 2. Keep it clean. Obscene or sexual references will not be tolerated, and neither will foul language. If it isn't appropriate in a PG movie or while visiting Grandma, then it is not appropriate for these boards. Gamers of all ages are welcome here, and we all have to do our part to make the boards appropriate for everyone.
- 3. Do not whine. Under no circumstances will public whining be tolerated. If you don't agree with something, please feel free to contact us via Private Message (
). Do not post a public thread to complain about something a poster did.
- 4. Stay on topic. People start a post on a topic because they want to discuss that topic, whether it be about D&D, another gaming system, or a funny thing that happened on the way to work. Just be sure to post the thread in the appropriate forum. Similarly, don't reply to off-topic posts. Use the red exclamation point button
to report such a post, and the mods will take care of the rest. And if a topic has already been closed or deleted, please do not start another thread to resurrect it. We close/delete threads for a reason, after all. And please avoid cross-posting. We do not want continuing conversations across multiple threads.
- 5. No Spam. Don't post spam or irrelevant comments. They are a royal pain for the moderators and admins to deal with and clean up. This includes advertising for members who sign up just to post a link (Exception: Gaming-related advertisements are welcome in the [link]News forum[/link] so long as they are labeled as such).
- 6. Keep signatures reasonable. Your signature shouldn't be longer than your post. Keep your signature (whether you include graphics or just text) no more than 5 lines long. If you use a graphic in your signature, keep it small (50x100 pixels MAXIMUM), no more than 20Kb, and NOT animated.
- 7. Personal Pictures (avatars). We encourage the use of avatars. Please note that avatars are limited to 60 x 60 pixels in size and under 20Kb. If you do not know how to edit graphics to accommodate the requirements, Private Message one of the mods for help. All of the above rules on content and graphics apply to your avatar as well.
- 8. Search is your friend. If you need to find a thread, please use the search feature to do so. You can find it at the top of any page in the forum.
Enforcing the Rules
Threads: All moderators will delete, close, and move posts and threads in violation of the rules as they see fit. If your post violates the rules, it will be closed or deleted. If your post was deleted/closed/moved and you think it was not in violation of the rules, contact the moderator via e-mail. Do not post your complaint in the forum.
Banning: Moderators and admins can and will enforce the above rules by banning members who violate them. Members who violate the rules will receive only one warning before they are banned for a period of at least 1 week. Flagrant violations of the rules (such as spamming porn links or posting grotesquely obscene images) is an instant lifetime ban.
By creating an account, you agree to abide by these rules while participating in these forums. You acknowledge that violation of these rules can and will result in the deleting/moving/closing of threads and potentially banning.
