Everything you want to know about the Dungeons & Dragons Miniatures game produced by Wizards of the Coast! If you have any news about the game, please e-mail me at merricb@yahoo.co.uk. A good place to gain further information - especially from Rob Heinsoo and Mike Donais, two of the designers of the game - is the D&D Miniatures Forum on the WotC boards. Merric's Law of Miniatures: Non-Random Packaging, Cheap Prices, and a Large Range of Figures: Choose two. What are D&D Miniatures? | Recent News: |
News Collected Designer Post update Quite a few posts from Mike and Rob have been added to the collected designer posts page (although it's something of a misnomer - Mike's a developer. ;))
Of particular note is the information that uncommon Ogres and Trolls are indeed in the works - we should see them within a year. () Wizards sites updates A couple of days late (apologies - I've been rehearsing for a concert this Sunday...)
Commander's Notebook: - three 100 pt warbands for the commander. Recurring Villainy: - twenty encounters from EL 5 to 11 featuring the Flayer! () Set 8: Underdark Set 8 has been confirmed to be Underdark. It will be released in October 2005. () Mini Promotional Miniature available from Dragonlance.com Announcement from Jamie Chambers: Dragonlance.com now has a new webstore, a place where you can purchase Dragonlance game products and novels. Many are available signed! We ship anywhere in the world, and our product library and autographed stock will grow each week. This offer is limited to one figure per order, only while supplies last. Please browse through our selection and see what the Dragonlance.com has to offer you! () Wizards site updates Two updates on the Wizards site:
- a sample warband with strategy notes - a skirmish scenario
() No "Legends" set Amazon.com has recently been advertising a "Legends Huge Pack" for September 2005 - there is no such thing. To quote Jesse Decker, "The info from Amazon concerning the 'Legends Huge Pack' is wrong, wrong, wrong." () Angelfire confirmed Angelfire has been confirmed as the name of the 7th set - it is due out in July 2005. I've added the preview page for the set - see the header of this page. Like Deathknell, it mainly supports 200 point play.
I've also added a bunch of comments from Mike to the Collected Designer Posts page. () Recurring Villainy - Drider Sorcerer The latest Recurring Villainy article is up on the Wizards site: by Dale Donovan.
Presented here are 20 encounters ranging from EL 4 to 10. Each involves the drider and/or its minions. Feel free to substitute other figures of the same ELs if you want more variety among the drider's lackeys or to surprise players who might see this article. I've made sure that only the drider itself is a rare figure; if you don't have one, you can replace it with a second drow rogue (make them twin siblings who share a telepathic bond), a half-elf (as in half-drow) hexblade from Aberrations, or another figure of your choosing.
() Not much to report... Not much happening at the moment, but I thought I'd just let you know that. No News is Good News, right? ;-)
The poll for Favourite Set has been tightening - 359 votes so far with:
- Giants of Legend (33%)
- Archfiends (32%)
- Dragoneye (16%)
- Aberrations (11%)
- Harbinger (6%)
Yes, I know that adds up to 98%. I don't know what's happened to the other 2%. Stupid rounding! For those who don't read my posts on Maxminis.com, I've finally got a Huge Red Dragon! Pulled it out of a booster. (Only four minis to go for a complete set of GoL). Oh, I posted Warbands VII back on Monday if you didn't visit the strategy page. () Bits and pieces Mike Donais has mentioned that there's a new Necromancer figure in Deathknell, which will make the Minotaur Skeleton more attractive to play. I've also added a bunch of other posts by Mike to the Designer Posts page.
The second This Week in D&D Miniatures article is also up, giving an overview of some of the strategy discussions that took place on the Maxminis and Wizards boards. () New version of Miniaturizer released Miniaturizer, the Warband creator and DDM database, has been updated to version 1.2.1: (For both Mac and WIN)
1.2.1 fixes some minor bugs. The Aberrations data is also available with this new release.
() Creeping Tangle tile available The replacement tile for the ill-fated Assembly Tile 5 has been released by Wizards - () Magnetic Arena The latest Wizards site update presents the , a Travel Edition of the D&D Miniatures skirmish game. Quite unusual. ;-) () What's your favourite set? I've just set up a poll to discover the answer to this burning question -
Enjoy! () Guenhwyvar stat card pictures Runelord151 has sent Amurayi and myself pictures of the promotional Guenhwyvar's stat card. I'll get mine up tonight, but until then you can visit and see them for yourself. (It's on his Deathknell page). () Eberron RPGA Campaign and Miniatures The first FAQ for the RPGA Eberron campaign is up. Of interest to miniature gamers is this passage:
Will there be fastplay characters? Yes. Early November heralds the release of six fastplay characters keyed to figures in the D&D Miniatures Aberrations set. We’ll advance these core six characters throughout the campaign level kicks. With each new miniature set comes more fastplay characters. For instance, in late February we’ll unleash four new fastplay characters keyed to figures featured in the D&D Miniatures Deathknell set. And starting with Deathknell, basic stats for those fastplay characters are featured on the roleplaying side of the stat cards, so you can play them right out of the box. Just a note: Fastplay characters don't have names, so it's not automatic that they'd be iconic characters. Instead, they'll be normal miniatures, though possibly with an Eberron theme, much like the Valenar Commander and the Sharn Cutthroat. () Save +# Guy Fullerton has confirmed that "Save +#" will be removed as an ability in upcoming sets; it seems likely that a fifth attribute "SAVE" will appear on the stat cards. Incidentally, Save +# isn't exactly a named ability - two instances of it stack, thus Tordek gains an effective +7 bonus to his saves from his innate Save +4 and Drizzt's Save +3 commander effect. () () Fixing Random Dungeons I've started a thread on the Wizards boards about - more correctly, to make the Random Dungeon rules more goal-orientated and interesting as a game. () Deathknell previews? Mat Smith has that he's going to try and preview four Deathknell miniatures in the In the Works article for December. () GenCon SoCal Miniature Tourneys and Leagues Wizards have posted the of what Miniatures games (Star Wars and D&D) will be available to play at GenCon SoCal. () Designer Posts I was just doing my weekly search for new Designer Posts - there are a few new ones from Mike.
Rob Heinsoo has also mentioned in the last few days that he's working on new Campaign rules, and that there'll soon be an update to the online rules dealing with changes to Summoners, Minions and suchlike. () Assembly Tile 5 - unreleased! Mike Donais has informed me that Assembly Tile 5 (previously available on the Wizards website) has been pulled from the webpage - it is no longer legal in Organised Play (tournaments, leagues and the like).
He offers his apologies to those who already went through the trouble of downloading it. There were game balance concerns with the tile, causing it to be removed from the Retailer Kits. There are no plans in the near future to release that tile; though if Wizards ever do decide to send it out then it will be OP legal at that time. Creeping Tangle is in this month's kit and Assembly Tile 6 will be next.
Wizards will try and get the correct tile (Creeping Tangle) up as soon as possible. () Details of the November retailer kit Wizards have posted details of the November Retailer Kit on their .
Of note: 12 Assembly Tile "6" terrain tiles; 7 Sahuagin Ranger promo minis; 3 small burst area effect templates; 3 copies of Chris Tulach's In Cold Blood adventure for The Legacy of the Green Regent. (D&D, 8th level characters; LGR-16) () Pictures of the promotional Guenhwyvar Thanks to Matt (Runelord151), I now have some really nice pics of Guenhwyvar on my promo page. ()
