Red Wizard warband - LE, 200 pt
From :
Here is a 200 point (well 197) point war band for tournaments that I've found very successful:
- 1 Red Wizard (Cmdr3) - R63
- 2 Duergar Warrior - U8
- 4 Cultist of the Dragon - C116
- 1 Nothic - U10
By having the Red Wizard as your commander, it allows you to include the Cultists in your warband and also adds 5 damage to each of their spells. By keeping the Nothic and Duergars upfront for protection with the spellcasters behind them, you have ample room to cast spells from afar with the Cultists and allows the Red Wizard to cast his fireball if need be. =)
By keeping this as a tight group, this warband has so far defeated those warbands that have challenged it. Enjoy!

First tournament experience
Nequitane posted the following on the Maxminis boards:
My band consisted of:(0 comments)In the first round I faced off against an LE band consisting mostly of Thayan's and Human Executioners with a Human Cleric of Bane tossed in. I was fortunate to bottleneck his army in a hallway and the Thayans beat on the HDS which were healed ALOT! Time expired and I was victorious as I managed to kill one of his H Executioners where he only killed my Stonechild, a rather defensive match!
- 2 Cleric of Lathander (54)
- 2 Human Dragon Slayer (118)
- Healer (130)
- Eberk (146)
- Aramil (159)
- Warmage (181)
- Stonechild (193)
- Protectar (200)
In the second round I had to face a CG band of mostly Halfling Rangers with a few archery pump commanders and a Clay Golem. With a few lucky initiative rolls my spells knocked out both of his commanders and the Golem was inneffective for the rest of the game except for one turn where I controlled it. The Halflings were easy pickings for the rest of my army once I promptly closed to melee with them!
Round three saw me facing an Orc band in the Cave of Pain scenario. This one was not shaping up well for me! His band had an Eye of Grummsh and 2 Orc Champions and the remainder were all Orc Raiders. Through casting spells I managed to make all his Raiders flee, but his higher damage output and faster movement proceeded to thump me all over the place. It would have been a pitiful sight to watch!
In round four, I was facing the dreaded Ogre Ravager band. It consisted of 3 Ravagers, a Red Samurai, I forget which commander and some filler units. Aramil managed to Ray of Enfeeblement all 3 ravagers while a HDS backed up by healing held one in each hall. Spell damage from the back ranks helped as well. I won this round as time expired and I had killed one Ravager and his filler in addition to making his Samurai rout off the board. He had eliminated my Eberk and Protectar as well as one of my HDS and had there been more time I am sure the round would have been his. It was a great battle and was probably the most fun round of the day. MVP Aramil!
This moved me into the finals.
The finals saw me facing off against a Lord Soth and a Mummy and some filler. I felt good going into this match and tile placement was going well, mostly to avoid the large Fire attack of Soth (which never did get used). Things were going well, I knocked out his Mummy quickly with some nice Fire spells and Magic Missiles early as well as dropping some filler. Things turned for the worse when all 4 Searing Light spells failed to beat Soth's Spell Resistance. Once Soth closed to Melee Range a few lucky Criticals dropped a HDS. Eberk, Stonechild and Protectar fell as well when time was called. He had eliminated 67 points and I had only taken out 57. Things were not boding well though as my second HDS was hurt and Soth was barely damaged. This was also a great round.
All in all my first tourney was very enjoyable and I am looking forward to next weeks which is a 100 point Quickstrike. It is time to start planning! I'm still new to the game and enjoyed seeing all the pieces that I have only read about and had never seen before. I also just realized that I had no rares in my army! Does anyone have any PDK or SOH for trade? :PMore Warband discussions
