Malhavoc Press Announces Next Variant Player's Handbook
posted by Jim at 9:45 AM
Iron Lore Relies on Action, Not Magic
The next big release for Malhavoc Press is Monte Cook Presents: , a new variant player's handbook by Mike Mearls that emphasizes high-octane action fantasy, game designer and Malhavoc owner Monte Cook announced at the GAMA Trade Show this week.
"Iron Lore is the game I always wanted to play," explained designer Mike Mearls. "It's the game that lets a warrior with a plain old longsword and a metric ton of gumption take down a red dragon. It's the game where every fight is an event -- every action has the potential to be the coolest thing that happens at the gaming table that night."
The 240-page Iron Lore variant player's handbook is modeled after Malhavoc Press' popular Arcana Unearthed, which presented modular rules subsystems that could be used alongside the standard Player's Handbook or as a separate roleplaying game. While Arcana Unearthed focused on an alternate magic system and new races and classes, Iron Lore presents new aspects of combat, an expanded feat structure, an alternate magic paradigm, and a new set of character classes. Iron Lore is not related in content to Monte Cook's Arcana Unearthed or Arcana Evolved, but the book does include conversion guidelines.
Iron Lore, an OGL release compatible with the d20 System, is due out in electronic (PDF) and print editions in August 2005. It features cover art by Jeremy Jarvis and interior artwork by Kev Crossley. The book, which is black-and-white with a color introductory section, retails for $37.99 in print and $14 in PDF. Find out more about the book at its website: .
