Goodman Games & Magnificent Egos Offer Iron Heros Tie-Ins

Goodman Games and Magnificent Egos have become Malhavoc Press' newest partners in releasing official support products for its forthcoming Monte Cook Presents: Iron Heroes variant player's handbook.

Goodman Games, known for their classic dungeon modules, plans a 64-page introductory tie-in adventure. Magnificent Egos, makers of high-quality metal roleplaying miniatures, will produce the game's official miniatures line.

Malhavoc Press founder Monte Cook said he's looking forward to seeing these official Iron Heroes products showcase the game's high-octane variant rules. "I'm really happy to be working with Goodman Games and Magnificent Egos," he said. "I'm a big fan of both companies, and they both have a great feel for what Iron Heroes is all about."

Joseph Goodman, president of Goodman Games, expressed how pleased his company was to support Iron Heroes. "Iron Heroes takes fantasy roleplaying back to its roots: the mighty warrior," he said. "This is exactly the kind of game a lot of us have been waiting to play!"

Goodman Games' adventure module, tentatively titled Song of the Blade, takes beginning characters on a daring quest through spider-haunted forests, using unique encounters to highlight the martial variant rules of Iron Heroes. Written by veteran d20 author Matt Sprengeler, Song of the Blade is scheduled for September release. Advance copies will be available at the Gen Con Game Fair this August in Indianapolis.

Magnificent Egos plans an initial release of five character miniatures for August 2005, with a special limited-edition figure available only at Gen Con Indy. The new figures will be brought to life by sculptors Bobby Jackson and Gene Van Horne based on designs by notable fantasy artists Kev Crossley and Jason Engle.

These offerings augment the previously announced Iron Heroes Battle Box and PDF exclusive adventure planned by Malhavoc licensee Fiery Dragon Productions.

Lawsuit Threat Causes Title Change for Malhavoc Press

Abridged Press release from Malhavoc Press:
Malhavoc Press' latest variant player's handbook went to press this week with a brand-new name. The company changed the title of Monte Cook Presents: Iron Lore to Monte Cook Presents: Iron Heroes in order to avoid threats of a lawsuit over the original name.

The new roleplaying game rulebook, a 256-hardcover by Mike Mearls that focuses on action fantasy, will release on schedule on July 25 in print and electronic (PDF) edition. To avoid name confusion in ordering the book, Malhavoc Press founder Monte Cook urges customers to preorder Iron Heroes from retailers by stock number (WW16154) or ISBN number (1-58846-796-1).

The new rulebook's title became an issue when, one month ago, software developer Iron Lore Entertainment demanded that Malhavoc Press and its publishing partner, White Wolf Publishing, cease using the name "Iron Lore." While the software company did not hold a trademark on "Iron Lore," it had applied for ownership of the trademark "Iron Lore Entertainment." In a letter from its legal representatives, the software company claimed that Malhavoc's use of the title would confuse consumers.

"While I don't agree with these assertions, I'm not willing to engage in a prolonged legal battle over the title," Monte said. "Fans have been waiting months for this new book. A lawsuit would only mean many more months of waiting."
